Mr Dunne, of Albury, well known m connection with the capture of the Kellys, has arrived from England per Chimborazo. Great 1 preparations are afloat for a banquet on the 14th, m celebration of the junction with the railway system of Victoria and New South Wales at Albury. The small boat m which Bernard Gilboy made the voyage from San Francisco .to Queensland, is now:being {exhibited by Gilboy m Melbourne. The boat is only 15 feet m length. It is stated that the work of eradicating phylloxera has. not been properly carried out, and that the 1 disease still exists m the infected, districts. : [t has been decided to institute further proceedings against Margaret Griffin, who obtained money from the friends of Professor M'Ooy by representing herself as his daughter and wishing to assiet her brother m New Zealand. j '^he Crown Law Department has decided to take no further proceedings against the women Taylor and Monighan, whose case the jury disagreed upon twice. i A Chinaman named Ah Young was found murdered, his head being cut open, m his own house m Little Bourke- street. Ihe house was the resort of loose characters ot both sexes. •A movement is on foot to establish an Ambulance Association, a branch of St. John's Ambulance Society, with the object of disseminating elementary surgical knowledge of the treatment of accidents when medical aid is not at hand. Mr Redmond held his first meeting at St. Patrick's Hall on Tuesday night. Mr Longmore m the chair. The speech contained little novelty, and the proceedings were orderly. Sydney, June 6. The case Law v. Brown and another commenced m the Supreme Court on Monday. Law was formerly manager of the Bank of New Zealand at Suez. Messrs. J. and A. Brown are merchants at [Newcastle. The action was for wrongful dismissal. Plaintiff alleges thajt he was engaged as manager for S'Ven years ar £2000 per annum, but dismissed before the end of one year. The case ia likely to last the week. The electric light at the South Head lighthouse is a great success, being visible 35 miles, i Adelaide, June 6. In thfl Assembly on Tuesday an attack was made on the Government administration of the Land Act of last session. It was contended that the result was a loss of £316,000. A vote of censure was moved, and the House adjourned.
