LAND TO LEASE.
Some important announcements appear m the. Wellington papers, froni which it will be seen' that the Government are taking active steps to bring into operation the clauses of the amended Land Act of last- session providing for the leasing of rural lands. There are 2264 acres on the West : Coast of the North Island offered at upset rentals ranging from. ls 9d to 2b 6d per acre per annum : and 1 there are 26,000 acres m Otago at upset rentals ranging from Is to ss. Any person of ; 1.3 years of age and upwards can become a lessee under this system, but no lease is to be granted to any person ! who would own or occupy including the land comprised m the lease, a greater area than 640 acies m any part of the colony; ..The result of the tendering will be awaited with great interest, as affording an indication of the extent to which the new departure m the land policy of the colony is .likely to be successful,, •■ .. =
