In the latest issue of tbe Wellington Monthly Prices Current and Trade Report there are. 6ome shrewd and suggeßtive' remarks on the present state of trade m Wellington. It remarks that " not only has a stop been put to the rapid increase of ißank advances, which has been going on for the last two years, but also a step,; though only a small one, has been made m th 9 direction of lower figures," there being a decline of ■49r,000f0r tho quarter, and ''♦! when it is reniein'bfer'e'd that during the past two years we have been accustomed to see a steady increase m this branch at a rate of over half a million every quarter, it is satisfactory to' find - that a check has at last, been applied to some purpose,' 1 a course which it is pointed out may ** jfroYe Wbe the beginning of a move-* ment that will m a few months result m an easier state or the 1 money market. " The opinion is' expressed that "the SJale of recent importations was on the whole excessive, as proved by the unremuneratiye. prices/ but that "there are indications that a period of moderate, importing has already begun, that the arrivaU of general merchandise are already on the decline, and as a consequence," it is noted, that the market report indicates some slight improvement m prices m certain branched of good p. ■ On the whole, therefore, (adds the Post) the state of trade miy be regarded as improved and improving. With the development of local public, works there should be prospects of sti'V further amelioration during the current year. / ' :
