A German named Bruce, died suddenly at Maralta, through drinking cold water while overheated. Some crystals, or supposed diamonds, found by Mr Robert Graham, between his estate at Wairaki and Lake Taupo, are to be tested by hydrophone acid. ~.\' Chbistchurch, This Day* Ernest Webb, an apprentice on the Cairnbulg, fell from the main yard aad struck the winch. He lived only a few minutes. Timaru, This Day. Mr W. J. Steward, M.H.R., ad* dressed his . constituents at Waimate last nighr, and received a unanimous vote of thanks and confidence. The weather has now turned for the better, and seems to have set m fair. 1 The amount of damage done to roads and bridges by the late floods is now found to have been very considerable, and a l»rge sum of money will have to be spent by the local bodies and the Railway Department to mike repairs. Dunedin, May 7. A meeting of creditors m the estate of Messrs Stavely and Austin was held yesterday, when about twenty firms were represented. The assets are estimated at about £16,000,0f which £12,000 is due to the Bank of New Zealand, while the next highest creditors are Neill and Co., (Limited). It is anticipated by Messrs Stavely and Co., that the estate will pay 15s m the pound. After discussion it was resolved to wind up the estate, Messrs Gibson, Ferrier, and G. L. Denniston being appointed liquidators. A public meeting convened by the Mayor will be held on Saturday to consider whether relief should be arranged for the Wild Deer's immigrants when they arrive.
