THIS FIXE BKIGADE. (to the editoe op the standaed.) Sir, — I am sorry your efforts, and those of other persona interested, to establish a fire-brigade have proved ineffectual. It seems that oar public men and men of standing m the plase do tot take sufficient interest m the very necessary proposal. Why they should be so apathetic, I cannot understand, I tiust the Press and those who have exerted themselves to establish a Fire Brigade m Palmerston will not. allow their efforts to relax until something is actually accomplished. It is no credit to us to have to say that we are so backward as a town when we .ought to be moving. I hope others will take the matter up. — I am, &c, mCOBMOPOLITAN,
