Fatal Accident at WELLINGTON.
m (BY TELEGRAPH.) (UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Wellington, April 21. A fatal accident occurred at the bonded store of Messrs W. and G. Turnbull and Co. at 1 o'clock this afternoon, resulting m the death of one man, and serious injury to another. Two store-men named Philip Latham and Edwin Bryant were engaged taking some cases of spirits and wine up to the top floor by means of the nydraulic lift. They had only a light weight on : both were riding on the top of the caeeß, when within a few feet of the top. floor the chain by which -the lift is drawn up snapped, and the lift and cargo and men were precipitated to the ground floor. Latham was picked up insensi b!e, and expired iv a moment or two, both legs below the knees being absolutely crnshed. The other man Bryant received a seribujß ©hocfcto^the spinal cord, and lias been sent to the Hospital. 'Latham it is thought, attempted to jump from the lift, and was thus crushed between the flooi and the outer woods work of the lift.
