The company has a capital of a million and a half, and is prepared to advance money m sums not less than €600. A letter is lying at this office for Mr J. Wirk. Tbe -Melbourne Total Abstinence Society are demanding the stricter enforcement of tbe clauses of the Licensing Act, prohibiting Sunday trading. Ballarat is indignant that; its Bishop should be collecting money m England, and conveying the .impression that the diocese of Balhrat is m a state of heathenism and poverty. The total increase m the advances made by all the Australasian banks m the third quarter of 1882, over the corresponding quarter of 1881, was no less than £16,217,779, or a rise of 24 per cenfo Coolie immigration from Ceylon to Queensland has proved nearly a complete failure. The majority of the importations seem to be unfit for the work for which they were engaged — sugar cultivation — and are now roaming about the country doing nothing. Young Bryant, the Newcastle cricketer, is described by the Melbourne Age as the best wicket»kepper that has been brought to light aince Blackman was discovered. He is neat, easy, and remarkably quick, and, unlike most youngsters, stands up to his work with perfect confidence. The Dunedin Morning Herald has received a very Eensational telegram from 1 a correspondent" up North." According to his advices, tbe Ministry have determined to get rid of Messrs Dick and Rolleaton ; Mr Wbitaker talks of resigning ; Mrßryceis meddling m the Waikato at Jackson's instigation ; and the Ministry are generally all at sixes and sevens, con* sequent upon a big row m the Cabinet.^,
