♦ ' ■H. : (By Telegraph.) . (twited pbbss association.! Dunedin, This Day. The Kaitangata Coal Company has declared 10 per cent dividend. Opunake, this Day. A house belonging to a carpenter named Taylor was burnt last night. The occupants lost nearly everything. Both parents were fast asleep, but the cries of tbe haby woke them. They found themselves envelope! m smoke, and just escaped- with their lives. -. Westport, This Day. The case Regina v. W. F. McLeod, a charge ot larceny of partnership property occupied the District, Court all yesterday, The jury were locked up ac 5 p.m. being unable to agree, and at 10 this morning they were discharged. The case haa been postponed until next sitting of the Court. Wellington, This Day. Messrs Shaw, Seville, and Co. has chartered the fine steamer Westmeath, of 3190 tons, and the Agent-General has arranged to send 300 people m her to Auckland direct. Oyer 3000 persons hava signed the petition for Longhurst's release. It will be presented to His Excellenoy tomorrow.
