What may happen to a traveller m the back districts, of Victoria, says an exchange, was well illustrated during the late stormy weather, when a gentleman connected with one of the largest hardware firms , m Melbourne, found ' himself m. a selector's hut, consisting of only one room, the next house almost six miles distant on a bad track, and the rain coming down m torrents. There was but one large/ doable, bed m the shanty and one set of bed-clothes, and no curtain or other convenience. . .,, The wayfarer listened to the rain, and looked at the bare cabin and wondered— but Paddy "was mno Way discomposed* • "Faith, ye must stay withVus-r-that'& sartin— lave the ■ rest to me,", was ail that he deigned to say on the subject. When the hour of retirement arrived,he simply put out the ' light, and said, {< §fehrig, and get m beyant." The gueist,- "trembling, un« dressed as he was bid, and entering the bed, took his place next^the wall. In a moment or two/Paddyhad^sthripped" too, and joined him, and after a little rustling and hesitation, he became dimly aware that the young wife was ensconced on the other side of her husband. -
