James i Carey, one of the prisoners, turned informer, and was examined at great length. In the course of his evidence he stated that he beliered the murder fund was formed from money collected by the Land League, and appropriated for that purpose. He also stated that all the prisoners except two were members of the Assas~ sios Committee, and gave evidence fully confirming the existence of an. inner circle of assassins. Carey admitted that he suggested the use of knives for commuting the Pbcenx Park murder, and (hat he gave signals to aeven of the prisoners engaged m the murder, and announced the approach of tie victims. ° ' He averred that the chief actor m the murder was the prisoner Bradey. He affirms, however, that the operations of the Assassins Committee were directed by a mysterious personage, with whose name he was unacquainted, and who was known as "Wo. 1." The revelation has greatly increased the sensation which is felt throughout the country.
