Our New Governor.

Commenting npor the appointment of Sir William Druuitsond Jorvois as Governor of this colony, the Broad Arrow remarks: — "The well-known engineering, talent ef Sir William Jervois, exemplified m some of our most important coast defences, will find ample employment iv the magnificent colony, where the Public Works Department have, during the last ten years, devoted nearly ten millions to immigration, railways, roads, purchase of waste lands, water supply, bridges, telegraph works, and general develop* ments of resources. New Zealand has justly been considered one of the great prizes to be drawn by successful administrators ; and the rule of General Jervois at the Straits Settlements and South Australia, which he how leaves, to the regret of all ranks, may well entitle him to this good fortune.''
