The death of John Cody, of Michigan, is reported after a fast of 105 days. Another self-confessed Cavendish* Burke murderer named O'Reilly turned up at Rochester, New York, on Jan. 9. The wreck of the troopship Bolivia on the Barbadoes, with the loss of only Ou« sailor, and a lively riot between the police and a mob of Jamaicans at Aspinwali, iv which several lives were , lost, are reported. It is mooted that Grant will be a 1 candidate for the Presidency m 1884. Fifty thorsand dollars have been stolen from the Railway Company's vaults at Panama. The railway between Frisco and New Orleans was completed on January 12. Newhall House, a six-story brick building at Milwaukee, was burned on the 11th January. There were one hundred and ten guests, and sixty -five emplo)es m the hotel. Of these only sixtyi>seven were saved. The rest were either burned with the building, er killed by leaping from the windows. The fire is believed to have been the work of an incendiary, Trim Thumb and his wife had a close shave m getting away from the flames.
