MR. BRYCE AND TAWHIAO.
(To the Fditor of the Post,) Sir— For Mr Bryce "to discoun« tenance" any notice being taken ot Tawhiao during his stay m Wanganui . was quite as presumpto'us as to forbid ; the one term would have exactly the same effect as the other. We should endeavour to conciliate this chief "under existing circumstances," not pointedly insult him. Mr Bryce's ; antion m the matter was scarcely ■ statesmanlike. Why give Tawhiao a gold railway pass, and make him mag- • nificent offers -to-day, and quietly : " discountenance" any friendly demon* stration toward him to-morrow? — I am, <kc, . , " ' Takawa.
