Danger from Fire.
Unless precautions ar« observed, and a strict watch kept, the danger of the fire spreading from the direction of the old Palmerstou Hotel ;is very serious,. Were ifc to, g*in hold the total destruction of the town may ensue. Some buildings this afternoon m the vicinity were saved with the utmost difficulty. ■:•-!,: Later. 4,15. A visit to the locality confirms the necessity for the utmost vigilance. The fire is travelling with dangerous rapidity, favoured by a brisk wind, and grass and fenoing areigniting everywhere, .We' urge atrongly that a . careful watch, be observed all: night, anil timely precautions be taken to prevent the destroying element! spreading which it now threatens to do, m which case destruction would be universal and inevitable. ; ,4.30 p.m. The fire is still advancing, the grass igniting chains m advaneeof the burn* ing timber, If .the townsmen are, alive to their interests immediate steps will, be taken to check its further advance, . otherwise we greatiy fear many buildings will bo m ashes before morning. _.
