CHARGES FOR TRANSMITTING MONEY.
(To the Editor of the N. Z. Herald.) Sir. — I had occasion, to-day, to wire £39 to Te Aroha, and nnthink* ingly sent it through the PosUoffice. The charge for so doing was 17s, and had it been urgent, the charge would have been 8s m addition. I mentioned the circumstances at the Bank of NewZealand, when I was informed its charge would have been 3* 6d, including exchange and telegram. I was also informed that the bank had that day telegraphed £40 for a customer to Adelaide, tbe whole expenses being 12s 6d. These being the facts, I think, m the interests of tho public, they should be made widely known, as the charge by the Post-office, as compared with the bank books, is something like extortion. —I am, ,<fec f R."*MoDONALD SOOTT.
