The man Hinton (sicj was formerly second steward of tho Tararua, and died of consumption on Sunday last, he had been for a long time under police sur* v,eil lance. Thd gold consists of single ingots, and was contained m an iron bound box. It i 3 doubted whether Hinton was sole robber, and tho police are making further investigations. Melbourne, Jan. 19. Baker's dispute has been settled, and the men have decided not to strike. Mr G-. P. Vernon will not, play for the English team m the international match commencing to-day. Sydney, Jan, 19. In the Legislative Assembly last night E. Cameron was re-elected Chairman of Committees. A Bill granting a supply to the amount of £991,000 was passed through all stages. It was announced that the Treasurer will deliver his financial statement: on the 25 th inst.
