In one case of sunstroke a man named Sullivaa, belonging to Oamaru, was stricken down ia the harvest field at iMakikibi, and was brought into town by train and conveyed to the hospital, ' where he lies m an unconscious state. In the second case a young man aimed David Hutchison, working* m a field at Tiko Fiat, was struck down, and died m a few minutes. A number of milder cases are also reported. An old man named '• Ymkee Sam " fell into a fire at Waihi Bash to-day aid was seriously burned. His life is ; considered m danger. James Sullivan, who received a sunstroke at Otaio yesterday, died m the Hospital last night. At the Resident Magistrate's Court to-day Patrick Ryan, who was arrested m Melbourne, was charged with horse* stealing. The case was dismiß3ed, as it appeared that the prosecutor had made a claim on prisoner's es ate for the value of the horse alleged to have been stolen. There are a number of other cases against Ryan and his wife and daughter. Ashburton, Jan. 18. The rates of wages ar& for ordinary
