To the Editor of the Marlborough Press.

Sir,—Allow me, if you please, to say some thing on a subject mentioned in your last nu.u ber. Every Christian who has perused your article headed, “ Shall We Throw Physic to the Dogs ?” must have been, like me, painfully affected by the tone of levity which pervades it. Solomon, whatever may have been the failings of his old age, is nevertheless, sir, everyone will agree, one of the most remarkable personages of the sacred history ; his writings were always and are yet venerated by the Jews,-and are so now by most Christian communities, who consider them to be a part of the inspired Scriptures ; and, what is more, that great monarch is one of the ancestors, and one of the most illustrious ancestors, of our Saviour. Therefore, sir, let us pay him a little more respect, and avoid that flippancy of tone which will teach no good to the young generations and to the frivolous of all ages and classes. You see that I pass no judgmeut and give no opinion on the substance of the article ; I only criticise its tone with respect to Solomon. And I shall feel obliged by your giving insertion to these remarks in your next publication. Yours, &c., A Bible Reader. Havelock, Sept. 5.
