HARBOUR BOARD ELEC TION.
Messrs Horatio Everett, Thos. Hewetson, Chas Fry, J. A, Guy and J B Jordan (old members) will stand for re election to the Board. Mr Thos Pattie, who has been chairman of the Board for the past two years has not definitely decided to seek re-election. Mr Henry Holdavvay of Lower Moutere, informs us that he will be candidate for election to the Board, Mr Holdaway will stand, fob the County. ~ Other candidates mentioned are Messrs F W Thoip, H L Moffatt, C E Lowe ('for the Borough of Motueka,), J A Askew and A Straehan (County). Nominations close at the Board’s Office, the port, at noon on Monday, February 7th. It is provided that five members shall he elected by that portion of the Waimea County, within the Motueka Harbour district and two members by the electors of the Boro—ugh of Motueka. A poll (if necessary) will be taken on- the 14th February. In 1908 the number of candidates nominated foi the County was equal to the number of vacancies ; but in the Borough, which is entitled to two members, only one candidate (Mr P G {Moffatt) was nominated at the general election. This necessitated an extraurdinary election at which Mr Jordan was elected Mr P G Moffatt resigned his seat in December last as he was an applicant for the position of wharfinger.
[Since the above was in type, Mr H L Moffatt informs us that he is not eligible for election to the Board as he is, legally, still in the employ of the Board. [Mr Moffatt was granted three months’ leave of absence on his retire ment from the position of Wharfingerin December last.]
