The Motueka Star PUBLISHED TUESDAYS AND FRIDAYS. "Te Ora Mota Iwi" FRIDAY APRIL 26, 1907,

Speaking from the Post Office steps lust Wednesday evening His Worship, the Mayor,, informed his audience that he had evidently roused the ire of the Editor. We beg to assure His Worship that he has done no such thing. We ate not and have not been angry ; but when be, or any other informs the Public that our reports are mis-leading or inaccurate he must be prepared to substantiate his statements or take the consequences. The public want accurate reports of what§takes place and in order to obtain these they subscribe to the Motueka and it too nearly concerns our honour for us to allow ourselves to be the scape goat of anyone who may have roused a hornet's nest But His Worship, returns to the attack. We had reported certain things as having taken place during a Council meeting. His Worship told the public that'these things happened after the Council meeting,, and we challenged hiua to prove this. Instead of accepting our challenge, he abandons his whole position and says in effect ; "It is true I cannot substantiate my formerstatements, but I can still prove the report for it distinctly states that these things happened after the conclusion of the ordinary business." But His Worship is again wrong. The speeches,, the report of which has caused so much stir, were delivered not at fhe beginning of the ordinary business nor in the middle of the ordinary business, but at the conclusion of the ordinary business and this is exactly what our report stated. We challenge the Mayor to deny that the report leads as above, or to deny that the facts happened as reposted.
