The success of the Wanganui Gairison Band (says the Timaru Post of the 27th February), at the Exhibition contest was not in the least surprising: to many bandsmen A Masterton paper states that the winners work on pro bably the most systematic lines of any bands in the colony, and the band is run somewhat on the basis of a friendly society. The hand has a sick fund and a committee, and appoints regular visiting members when any bandsmen are invalided. Should necessity arise, the committee do not hesitate to send a member who has been incapacitated away on a holiday with a substantial cheque for expenses. These and other methods have made the band at once the most popular and successful in the colony. A young school teacher has died near Wrexham, England (says the Daily Mail) through taking “the blue half’ of a seidlitz powder without the white half.” A doctor at the inquest said the blue half taken alone would produce a depressing effect on the heart.

It is the eommerical traveller who finds the many changes of the climate and w a ter trying. The experience of Mr Chas G Chapman, who represents ala ge Brisbane concern, is not the exception. He had been troubled for yeais with clnoaic diarrhoea, and was especially bad when in North Queensland. On o) eof his trips a fellow traveller recommended him to try Chamberlain’s Colic, Cholera, and Diarrhoea Remedy, which he did. and what he has say is most interesting : —“I procured a bottle the first opportunity, and experience d great relief after taking a few doses, and was cured before the bottle was finished. I have not btei troubled since, and wish to recommend this wonderful medicine to anyone suffering irom the same complaint.” For saleby A Manoy.
