VALEDICTORY.

For the purpose of saying good bye to Mr Harry Stewart, who is leaving Motueka for Wellington, a large number of cricketers and athletes met at the Swan Hotel last night, when a hastily organised social and smoke concert was given. The chair was filled by Mr C. MacFarlane, who explained, briefly, the object of the gathering which was to wish their guest good luck in the future, and to acknowledge his many services in the cause of athletics. The usual loyal toast was followed by that of “our guest,” proposed by Mr Herbert Boyce, and drunk with musical honors. In reply, Mr Stewart thanked them for the compliment, stating that he had been a member of the Motueka Cricket Club for some years, and would still continue to be one. He had always done his best to advance the interests of cricket, and would ever bear them in remembrance. He concluded by proposing the health of the members of the club. The Press was also honored. During the evening, which passed off most pleasantly, son*s were given by Messrs A. and C. Talbot, McFarlane, G. Boundy, J. King, F. Delany, G. Boyce, recitation by g! Boundy, step dancing and juggling bv Andrews, etc. Advantage was taken b >\ Mr L- Manoy to propose the health of Mr C. G. M. Boyce, an old member of the Club, which was acknowledged by his father, Mr G. Boyce. The toast of the hostess, duly acknowledged, concluded the proceedings.
