No. I.—Te Paihere rakau. He tokomaha nga tama a tetahi koroheke. Nui noa atu te aroha o taua koroheke ki aua tama ra, me to ratou aroha hoki ki a ia; tena, kahore i aroha letahi ki tetahi. He ngangare lonu te hanga, he whawhai tonu, tetahi ki tetahi. Pouri noa iho te ngakau o to ratou papa, ki tenei likanga a ana laniariki. Whai noa ana taua koroua ra, kia ata noho ratou, kia wbakatupu aroha tetahi ki tetahi; whai noa, hei aha noa iho ana kupu kaloa. Nawai a, ko te maienga ote koroheke ra. Tona tatanga ki le hemo, meake ngaro, ka karangaiia ana tamariki kaloa kia haere niai ki a ia, ka tae mai ratou. Na ka lahi ia ka ki ake ki a ratou, "Tikhia, mauria mai tetahi paihere rakau." Ka lahi ka tikina, ka tae mai. Na, ko tana hoamtunsa i le paihere rakau rara ki tana tama malamua, ka ki am ki a ia, "Tena, whaiiia; e whati ranei i a koe?" Te naomanga atu o te tama malamua kite paihere rakau, wbakauaua noa, ko tona tangala maroro laua koroke, —whakauaua noa,—te whati. Ka tahi ka nanao atu to muri iho i a ia; ko te toru o nga lania; me to muri rawa lama ; nohea kia whati taua paihere rakau i tetahi o ratou. Ka lahi ka ki am te papa, "II omai te paihere rakau." Ka homai. Kei te wetewete le koroua ra i nga herehere ka oii. Ka tahi ka hoatu takiiahitia am nga rakau ole paihere, kotahi te rakau ki tetahi tama, kotahi le rakau ki tetahi lama, ka rato nga tama tokowha i te rakau. Ko te meatanga atu o to ratou papa, " Tena, whaliia nga rakau na." Te! kua takiwhaliwhati anake, iana rakau, tana Takau; he takikotabi hoki no te rakau ma letahi, ma to takiwha, i noa iho. Ka tahi ka mea ake te koroheke ra. *« Ka ngaro tenei ahau, ko taku whenua ka waiho iho mo koutou lahi. Na, e. (amariki ana koutou; tena nga tangata hei homai i te he ki a koutou i muri i ahau. Me pehea ra e kaha ai koutou? Kite whakarite koutou ki tenei paihere rakau, kahorn he tangata e kaha ki a koutou. Kite whai aroha koutou tetahi ki telahi; ka pin pa
hoki tetalu ki tetahi; e Jkaba tonu koutoir. Tena, ka tuwehewehe koutou tetahi i teiahi; ka laea takiiahitia koutou.
