A copy of the July number «' "Aussie" recently to hand contains an announcement of a very worthy object. The proprietors of "Aussie," fearing that there may be some truth in the ■tatement that the quality of black-and-white art in Australasia has fallen off in recent year?, have decided to give practical encouragement for the improvement if the sta- dard of this branch of art.
A prize of *25, plus the usual high rate of payment, is offered for the best drawing published in "Aussie" during the period of August, Septpmber,' and October. A prize of Jfc's is to be awarded for the best drawing by an artist who has not previously had work published in "Aussie." Writers are also to be enceuraged
