Mr 0. Cooper, a prominent supporter of the Reform Party in Masterton, has a cure for the wharf labourers who desire that imported manure bags should be lined with -paper to' prevent the noxious dust from penetrating their noses, ears and mouths. Speaking at the last meeting of the Masterton A. and P. Society he exclaimed: " Why not remove the polltax and flood the country with Chinese. That is apparently the only way to get over these labour troubles and strikes." Queensland's Governor receives the same amount The Governor of South Australin. who. is at the same time Commander -in-Chief of the Forces, is paid £4OOO. This is the silarv of the Governor of Western Australia. The Governor of Tasmania receives £3,500 while the Governor of New Zealand gets £SOOO, and £2.000 extra in respect of travelling expenses and other allowences.
