SPINSTERS' BALL AT WAIPIATA.

[By A Cobbespondent/] On Wednesday, the 19h August, the spinsters of Waipiata entertained a large number of invited guests to what proved to be a bright and picturesque fancy dress ball. The weather however was anything but pleasant, as rain fell heavily, making the surrounding roads an unlooked for hindrance to many who would otherwise have been present. Mr H. Dowle (clown) and Miss Pearce (starry night) led off the Grand March at 8.30 p. m. through the nicely decorated hall, and dancing, with a break for supper, was heartily enjoyed until 3 a.m. During the evening brief, but cordial votes of thanks were accorded the following—Mr Cleland for his cheerful loan of the hall and piano, those who provided the music and the spu.stf.rs of Waipiata coupled with the name oi Mis<» Laura Dowle, the hon. sec. of the committee.
