DEBATING SOCIETIES.

MT. IDA SOCIAL AND "DEBATING CLUB. The annual meeting of the Mount Ida SociaKand Debating Club was held on the evening of last Tuesday week, in the County Hall, Dr Macknight occupying the chair. After some discussion it was decided to hold four debates during the season, the subjects to be chosen and leaders appointed by the committee: It was further decided,. on the motion of Mr Hilton, that two socials be held, one at the beginning: and the other at the end of the seaon.

The following office bearers were elected :—President, Mr H. W. Hilton ; committee, Messrs B. Barnard,' C. E. Davey, J. W. Reed ; hon. sec. and treas., Mr S. T. TJren. During the evening several members expressed the desire of seeing everything possible done to make the coming season a.successful one. The usual compliment-to the chair closed the-meeting. BON TON DEBATING SOCIETY. The Bon Ton Debating Society intend holding their annual meeting on Tuesday, ithe 26th instli at 8 p.m., in the Fire Brigade Station.
