MINING NOTES.

' Sales of wateS from the. Mt Ida Water race, Otago, during the month of March amounted to £ls, and from Blackstone Hill race £1 lis 3d. The month was a very dry one only some showers falling on a few occasions. The manager of the Government water races in Otago reports that the month of March has been a very dry one in the Mt Ida district. The whole of the rock work- that had to be done in the widening of the race is now finished and where required it has been strengthened The creek supplying the Blackstone Hill race being-much the largest, and the water lifted out of. it being considerably higher than- the Mt Ida race, the manager ■■ has:. -widened from the intake 3ft to.sft ;■ 21 chains of this is in rock, so that when the water gets low in the Mt Ida race, after supplying the Blackstone Hill demand, whatever surplus there is can be sent into it and conveyed to the Naseby miners. . There,is sufficient of the Mt. Ida; race now in good order, although not cleaned out to the head of it,-to keep the race full. Following is the return of mining pirileges registered by the Mining Registrar at Naseby for the month of March : Number of extended and special claims granted:—3; area, 25a; Annual year, £3 2s 6d-*9ec-Sond y'ear;.';'*i6 5s ; third year andvremainder'ibf term, £9 7s 6d. Number of claims forfeited or surrendered, 1 ;
