PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
The meeting of the Kyeburn Presbyterian congregation held on Thursday evening, 12th inßt., was only fairly attended, about half the families being represented. There were tvuree representatives from Patearoa present. The Rev. Todd explained the object of meeting and asked for an expression of opinion from thus'; present as to whether they deemed it advisable to be joined to Patearoa parish or not Mr Stewart, Patearoa, explained how the matter niLxtod the Patearoa parish. Messrs J. .Malloch and R. Scott saw no reason for ■leaving Naseby hut if such Btep was necessary it would be taken with regret. Mr H. Lunan expressed the opinion that this move was premature as in the near future the Patearoa charge would be extended the other way owing to the expiration of the Linnburn. lease, and as that run would probably be cut up a greater population would spring up at that cud. Mi Told .it this stage explained the view the Naseby speakers had taken at the meeting held Die previous evening,, which was shortly tnat Naseby did not wish Kyeburn to sepa rate from it, but if such were done it would ultimately result in better, work being done in Naseby, besides giving Gitnmerburn and ftanfurly a weekly service, which at present those places were desirous of obtaining. The Kcv. Mr Uhisholm also endorsed the remarks of Mr Todd and pointed out the mutual advantage both parishes would reap if a minister were stationed at Patearoa. The iicv. Mr Watson also spoke on similar lines. No resolution offering, Mr Todd said ho had drafted a resolution which would per haps meet the case. It was to the effect that 'lie matter be left in the hands of the com mission to do as it thinks best in the in terests of all. Mr Scott expressed some surprise at the view Naseby took of the matter, and Mr' '•'a!loch asked some questions about how the financial aspect would affect Naseby in case of separation, but he was assured by the ministers present that Naseby expected the increased services at Gimmerbura and Ran Curly would compensate for the loss of Kye burn. As no one seemed inclined to move the resolution as drafted by Mr Todd, that gen tlemau informed the meeting that in the event of no resolution being carried, the commission would recommend what it deemed best in the interests of both districts. Mr Scott then said, as far as he knew, they had no option, and as the meeting was so small it would perhaps be better to leave the matter in the hands of the commission, Ho accordingly moved and Mr Malloch seconded the lesolution as proposed by Mr Todd.
