New York, July 7. When Sir J. G. Ward reached New York President Roosevelt's carriagemet him and conveyed him to Sagamore Hill, where he lunched with thePresident. On being interviewed at Oyster Bay Sir Joseph Ward referred to New Zealand's surplus wool and kauri gum, and stated that he was able to negotiate on the question of reciprocity with' the- United States without reference toBritain, lie was prepared to take the preliminary steps, and ou his departure to leave the matter in the hands of, tlity British Embassy.
