PUBLIC PICNIC.
As a section of the public wished thisyear to see a public picnic instead of the usual Sunday schools picnic, the teachers ac* quiesced in the idea. Accordingly a public meeting was held in the Oddfellows' Hall on Friday evening last. His" Worship the" Mayor (Mr Cutten) presided. There were a good many gentlemen and a few ladiespresent. On the'motion of Messrs A Marslin and Ryan, it was resolved to hold a public picnic on Boxing.Day. - - The following committee were appointed on the motion of MessrVM'K-Marshall and C Kirby—Me«srs Barnard, Strong, Parker, Misses A Fennessy. A Strong. Murray and A"Jfones. with power to add to their number. The committee lost no time in getting; to work, and they have arrangements already' well The collectors have met with a ready response, and pretty nearly £2O has already been raised. Mr, Barnard has donated £1 worth of books as prizes for' the races, the band has promised to attend, and the several departments of the picniccatering, amusements, &c—have - been placed under the management of ladies and gentlemen who are qualified to- carry ;tbemr out in the best manner possible. Everything points to a successful issue', and given? good Weather an enjoyable picnic for young and old should be the result.
