THE PATEAROA CLUB. (By Ogr Ows Correspoxdext.) The Patearoa club played four matches against the Naseby boys, each side winning two games. Our fellows would certainly have won the last match play«>d if it hadn't been for the splendid bowling of the man that comes from where they make the cups and saucers. Talk about the patent doubleaction hydraulic stump-lifter! Why, I'll back William to lift more stumps in ten minutes than that, ponderous machine could do in a day ! However, our boys did verv well to make level pogging of it. and I shouldn't bf a bit surprised to see them do even better this year. Although the batting averages for last season did not reach a very high figure, they are. nevertheless., au improvement'on those of former years. Captain Wilson heads the list with an average of mns for seven innings, the next being F. Schrick and W King, each having averaged seven runs. Then follow W. Hall and O. Cambridge (each 5), W. Chirnstde (4), D. Chirnside. W. MLean, and F. Ledingham (3 each), and J. Johnston (2i). Over the averages of Crerar and W. Johnston we will draw a blanket—l never was much good attractions anyway. The bowling was done by W. Chirnside, F. Schrick. \V. M-Lean. and Jack Johnston, their analyses being 2 (tf wickets) 3J (9 wickets) 4 (23 wickets), and (2S wickets) respectively.
