PROROGATION* OF PARLIAMENT.The Premier announced to the House this afternoon that the close of. the session would be simultaneous with the despatch of the Transvaal contingent on the 21st inst. The Public Works debate will ' eventuate next Monday. APPOINTMKNTS TO THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. The Star's correspondent states that all retiring Legislative' Councillors will be re-appointed, save those not desirous of serving the additional term. MR CADMAN is being urged to 'reconsider Lis decision not to statid at the election. THE TRANSVAAL VOLUNTEERB. Dr Thomas Burns, of this city, has been accepted as the medical officer to go with the contingent for the Transvaal. The services of New Zealand nurses have been declined as unnecessary. Major Madocks, staff-officer to Colonel Penton, accompanies the contingent. INQUKSTS. Two inquests were held in Dunedin to-day—one on an infant which was for nil dead in bed, and the other on the body of John Stewart, 68 years old, found in a stable at Woodside • with bis throat cut. In the former case a verdict of death from natural causes, and in the latter a verdict of death from exhaustion through deceased cutting his throat while tcmpotarily insane, was returned. ARM IT, the injured footballer, is slowly losing ground.
