LIMING LAND.
111? Mataura Ensign states that on jthe Estate 4000 acres have been jtreated with lime up to the present, and 1000 acres are to fye limed phis season. Edendnle Estate' has
never enjoyed a reputation of being a >heat-growing countiy, but, thanks to appears" to be in a fair way of niaking one. Last year an experiment was made in sowing 23 acres of wheat in lilted land, and, notwithstanding a bad season and the prevalence of short crops everywhere, the patch threshed £2 bushels to the acre. This encouraged, the company in greater effort in the direction of wheat growing, and SOOO acres- have peeu put down, mostly in autumn sown. At present autumn and spring sown paddocks are looking uncommonly well. One of the pre eminent at I vantages of limed land is that not ,only does it yield good crops, but it brings them to maturity much earlier than would be the case where ordinary fertilisers or none at all are used.
