LOCAL AND GENERAL.

The incoming 'Frisco mail should reach Naseby to-morrow (Saturday) evening. - At the local examination held in .Naseby this week, there -wer» two scholarship candidates and one for pupil-leacbership. The inquiry into the origin of a fire in the house of A. W. M'Donald, Cumberlandstreet, Duuedin, was held on Tuesday. The jury returned a verdict to the effect that the house was wilfully set fire to, but that there was not sufficient evidence to show by whom. At the show last-Friday a little mild excitement was caused by the capsize of a dog cart as it was driven iuto the ring, and by the runaway of a horse yoked to a spting curt. The former was damaged somewhat and the latter damaged one or two vehicle in its course. Warning. Several boys, the sons of respectable parents will bring vexation to their homes and probably punishment to themselves if they do uot quickly learn that breaking the windows of an empty house is no proper employment for the holidays. If they must throw stones let them go a mile from anywhere and throw to their hearts' content. When weather conditions are favourable there are few plants that givt such a lartje return of fodder as does lucerne. These conditions are this year to some extent present in Maniototo. We have been shown a magnificent 3ample grown without irrigation at Mr P. Howard's, Capburn. Although it is from the second cutting this season, the average must be nearly three feet in length. The longest shoot measures 3ft. lOin. As another couple of cuttings may be looked for this season, an idea of the handsome yield may be gathered. Unfortunately the area under lucerne at Mr Howard's is not very great, nor is a lar<?e quantity grown in the county. We should think, however, a larger number of our farmers would try a few ounces of the seed if but for an experiment. All kinds of stock eat the succulent stems and leaves eagerly. Authentic Medical Opinions Worth Knowing. —Dr Osborne says: "I use Sander and Sons Eucalypti Extract as a spray for nasal catarrh, low fever, asthma, &c, with great success. I find this preparation superior to' all others." Dr Stahl: " I have used various preparations of Eucalyptus, but I get better results from Sander Sc Sons' Eucalypti Extract than from any other ' Dr Preston : " I never use *ny Eucalyptus preparation other than Sander &, Sons', as I found the others to be almost useless." Dr Hart: "It goes without saying that Sander & Sons' Eucalypti Extract is the best in the market." In influenza, all fevers, throat and luug trouble, diphtheria, diarrhoea, dysentery, kidney complaints, rheumatism, wounds, sprains, ulcers, Sec, it is invaluable. See that you get Sander & Sons', and rpject spurious preparations, which are sometimes supplied by unscrupulous dealers.
