OUR VOLUNTEERS.

The Naseby Rifles had a big field day on January Ist. The corps paraded at 10.30 and put in a very instructive and practical drill on the ranee, Leiutenant M'Lellan in command of the right-half company, Lieutenant White in command of the left-half company, the half companies acting as separate companies and Captain Hosie as umpire. The drill was such that men could see what practical work meant, and to wind up a section competition was held, prize 20s, presented by Lieutenant M'Lennan. Conditions as follows:—Each section runs from 600 yds to 500 yds, fires 3 volleys, runs to 400 yds, fires 3 volleys, runs to 300 yds, fires 3 rounds indppendent firing, runs to 200 yds, fires 3 rounds independent firine. Shots on target and quickest time to win. Scores as under:— No. 4 section, Sergeant T. Lennane in charge 1 No. 3 section, Sergeant W. Aschoff in charge 2 No. 1 section, Sergeant R. Blair in charge 3 No. 2 section, Sergeant A. Hosie in charge 4

In the afternoon the annual competition for the Champion Belt, was fired. A very keen interest was taken in this competition. A large number of competitors entered—more than any previous year. The day was very windy, and not good for shooting, however, a few man Aged to put on a fair score. Vol. T. Lennane proving the winner. The following arc a few of the scores :
