MANIOTOTO DOG CLUB.

The annual meeting of the Maniototo Dog Club was commenced on Wednesday at the Iron Yards, Ewebnrn. The weather -was not very favourable,. yet there was a fair attendance, and the entries were very large, necessitating extending the trial over two days. Mr W. J. Millar, of the Eweburn Hotel, catered for the wants of the'inner man, the Naseby Pastoral Company gave the use of the yards, and Mr S. G. Inder supplied the sheep. Some capital work was done by the dogs competing. The following are the results :—■' .

FIRST DAY—WEDNESDAY. (Judges: James Elliott, H. Weir, and H. Kirkpatrick.) Class I.—Heading, bringingback and yarding about a-quurter mile. Time, 20 minutes. First prize, £5 ; second, £2 10s; third, £l. Three sheep. PointsHeading, 4; bringing back, 4 j yarding, 4; obedience, 4. R. Trotter's Tidy (brought back in 4min., and yarded in 6miu.)—l7 points ... 1 Wilson's Rough (brought back in 7min., and yarded in 12min.) —16 points ... 2 W. Pringle's Chance (brought back in4min. and yarded in 12min.) —15 points ... 3

S. 6. Inder's Sweep was hunted out to the left and headed Ms sheep iu good time, showed very good work in bringing back to the yards, but one sheep "proved so obstinate that the owner was compelled to call his dog off and set him to yard the other two, which he did in good style.—l2. R. Trotter's Tidy headed very quickly but his sheep split at once. Getting them together again he brought them to the yards in brisk fashion, aad. after showing good work at the yards got them in in good time.—l 7.

J. Wilson's Rough was hunted out to the right and headed well, but took plenty of time in coming back to the yards. After some very close work he succeeded in yarding, but beEore Wilson could close the yards the sheep broke out. The dog, however, after some very steady work again succeeded in yarding them before his time was up. —l6. A Paterson's Bob took some time to find his sheep—his owner having some difficulty in keeping him out wide enough. He was slow at bringing baCK, and rather slack in his work about the yards, so much so that he did not manage to yard in time. —6. Cochrane's Ned lost no time in getting to the front of his sheep and brought them back to the yards very nicely, but spoilt his chance by rough work in yarding. —l4.

A. M'Lean's Laddie went wide round his sheep without picking them up. Whenjhe did sight them he brought them back ill find style. Really fine work at the yards was spoilt by Laddie mouthing his sheep once; His time was 13 minutes.—l 4.

T. Ladd's Jim lost a lot of time by taking his cast round to the right and in at the back of the yards. With a fresh cast he succeeded in finding his sheep. He split his sheep and lost one, and working the others rather forcibly, he did not Bucceed in yarding. -—2. A Paterson's Don took a wide cast to the right, hut coming round rather short of his sheep did not sight at once. He worked well on the return journey, and almost had his sheep yarded, when they broke and Dtm did not succeed in getting them together again.—l2. Shaw's York, when taking his cast showed himself well under control. He brought his sheep back in quick time, and showed firstclase work about the yard.—l 4.

A. M'Leau's Spot was hunted out to the right, but crossed and headed on the left. He showed himself a very keen worker in bringing back and round the yard, but was unfortunate in having very wild sheep, and by breaking spoilt all chance Spot had of yarding in time.—l2. Shaw's Roy headed his sheep well, and Was working back to the yards in fine style, when he crossed. With this exception, the work done was splendid. He showed great firmness, and yarded in 14 minutes.—l 4. R. E. Matheson's Ned was hunted one to the right on three wild sheep, which split on the way back, and the owner called off his dog.— i. Pringle's Chance was hunted out to the left, headed well, and brought his sheep buck fairly well and quickly. Being well under control of his master, he yarded in good time.—ls. Shepherd's Bob headed out well, but two of his sheep made for the yards, and the owner had to send his dog round for the third, which lay down after a short run. The sheep splitting near the booth, the owner called off his dog.— 1 Class I was continued on Thursday mornins as follows : Preudergast's Help was hunted out to the right and run out very wide and did not find his sheep and was withdrawn.—o.

C. Annett's Ben was hunted out to the right and headed very well, but hurried his sheep back too quickly and only fetched two within the flags and failed to yard.—4. C. Lockhart's Wag was hunted out to the right, but did not run out very well tie headed on the right and brought back twfl sheep very well, and also showed splendid work at the yards, but failed to yard. He had the best command of his sheep of any dog in the trial. —l2.

SECOND DAY—THURSDAY. Class ll.—Five sheep to bo hunted away in any direction the judges mav decide on, and to their satisfaction. Sheep to get 50 yards start of dog. 3?irst prize, £4 ; second, £2 ; third, £l. R. Mathesoo's Toss (hunted distance in 12miu.)—12 points ... ... 1 W. Priugle's Nell (hunted distance in 11 inin.)— 31 points ... ... 2 T. Prundergast's Tom—lo points ... 3 A. M'Lean's Roy failed to hunt his sheep more than 100 yards, but was Vevy obedicut. —O.

C. Trotter's Ben hunted his sheep out about 200 yards well and showed good all round work.—B.

T. Preudergast's Tom hunted his sheep out well about 300 yurds and slewed to the right, hut failed to slew to the left.—lo. A. .1. Andrew Paterson's Don niade a good" cast and quickly found Ins sheep, but. forced them too much, and only brought two buck, which •he yarded in 12 minutes. He iras not well under control.—l2.

V^. Pringle's Rough made a good cast id the left, and found his sheep in 3 minutoi. He also forced two much and only brought t*o back. T.
