Mr. W. Dawson, M.H.R., has been in communication with the Minister for Public Works as to the date of the opening for traffic of the Otago Central railway, and has received the following telegram in reply:—" The Public Works department handed over the extension of the Otago Central railway to Middlemarch to the Commissioners a few days ago. The .Commissioners have not yet fixed on any time for the opening. I should like very much to be present at the opening, but it will be a fortnight ere I could bo in Dunedin, and to let tho matter stand over until then would c iuse too much public inconvenience.—R.
