London, June 14th.. In the House of Commons last in the course of the debate on the Irish Land Bill, Mr Gladstone made a speech, in which he remonstrated against the action of the Opposition towards the Bill. He hinted that the Government was prepared, if necessary, to demand "urgency," in order to ensure its speedy passage. Sydney June 15th.
A carpenter who has been working at a house in Lower George Street, opposite the residence of £ the Chinese merchant whose child has been suffering from smallpox, has caught the disease. He resides with 14 other persons in a house at Surry Hills. The house has been quarantined by the police, and the neighbours are leaving the locality. Later. Another European has been attacked with smallpox. The Bufferer resides in Cumberland Street some little distance from George Street. The alarm throughout the neighborhood and city is generally increasing.
