CORPORATION EMDOWMENT.
(To the Editor of the H6unt Ida Chhonjci,ej Sih, —Permit me through your open columns to fir w .fc'io a tvntion of the pul lie to ■ the action .of the City Fathers in referetice to a certain part of the Corporation Endowment sitw--uted in lioaclis' Gully. Sonie timg ago a miner applied for permission to work- a portion of the endowment;situated on the: hill to the west of the Gully, wliieh was granted to him ; but on suoh arbitrary conditions that by the time he Frais ■wotirecl the claim, tni fulfilled the conditions if ho be not- hopelessly involved in debt, he may think himself a lacky man. Ad joining this claim, but im tlve gully. is another miner, who lias been working there for the "last 18 months, but who never applied to the Corporation for permission to worlc tlri-s or way part of the Corpora fiora.Emdowment, and who is not bound down by any cond?it»ions whatever. Tiio wat(»r : aiH(I taiilif trs from this miner's claim •have-been dewing a gfeat -deal..of, damage to Broom street, nn<(l .estprciaiMy.ta the property of a poor widow woman, who liven not far from the end of 'iiia tail-race.'. Besides this, he is leaving -a dangerous open space right in the centre of the ! gully, and wh'ich is the resort of the many children in the neighborhood. Seeing, that this mian,'from his own showing, is making the.sum of £2O per week, [think : lie should lie compelled by the Corpora ' tion to make provision for 'filling in the space he leaves (which was im po ed upon the other miner), and also to extend'h'is tail rdc'e,"so that it will not do '' any more damage to Broom' -street, and • i«s neighborhood.—rl am, &<?., ' i WestWakd. NaSeby. l&h November," 1880.
