HYDE.

(From a correspondent.) At length wo have awaked from the apathy that was so prominent a characteristic of our townspeople, and indulged in the enlivening sensation of a concert on Friday evening, the 2lst inst. At the preliminary meeting our more serious neighbors wisely (?) eschewed the patronage of the giddy Terpsichore, and as a punishment for sueh a want of taste the disanpoinied goddess shed such a copious flood of tears as to almost prevent our eujoying the pleasures we invoked fr-.»m her more favored sisters of the Muse. Notwithstanding this bit of spite on the part of the prominent memher of tne capricious nine the schoolroom, which was prettily decorated with flowers, &c, was nearly rilled by those who wished to witness the anomaly of such a performance in Hyde. It was nearly nine p.m. whpn Mr. .Ramsay took the chair, and announced . that owing to the inclemency of the weather the concert that night would be free, but that the tickets purchased would be available for a concert to be given shortly, and which he hoped would be a financial success, as it woii'd be in aid of a meritorious object—namely, the school prize fund. After Mr. '-pedding (a gentleman who is 'highly esteemed in this district from his willingness ever to give assistance at such entertainments) treating us to his very na ural impersonation of " Larry Doolan " and his laughable negro delineations, Messrs. liamsay, Gildea. Kenny, Mann, and the teacher succeeded in pro voking ourniirt.h and applause until the Cliair.-iian to the astonishment of all announced 11.30. Judging from the hearty manner in which ail our efforts were applauded, we.may look forward to our nex' being a great success, which I shall take liberty to-describe in detail to .you.
