HAMILTON AND SOWBURN SCHOOLS.
The annual examination of the children attending the above schools took place at the Sowbura en Thursday, the 13th inst. Prizes were distributed to the value of £6, consisting of a splendid assortment of books selected by the master, Mr. T. H. Giles The children were examined upon the work which they had done during the two months that the schools have been opened, and acquitted themselves most creditably. The chair should have been taken by Mr. T. Foster, M.C.C., but owing to the unavoidable absence of ±'nat gentleman, it was filled by Mr. George Simpson, who handed the prizes to the successful competitors with a few kindly words of encouiagement. At the conclusion of the examination, three hearty cheers were given for the Chairman and also for the teacher, after -which the children attending the schools and those in the district (to the number of forty) sat down to a splendid tea, supplied and presided over by the ladies and genflemeu of the Sowburn. After ample justice had been done to the good things provided, the children -were amused by foot races, &c , a considerable sum of money having been collected by Mr. Giles, and awarded as prizes to the fleetest of foot Succeding the children's tea party, about twenty adults sat down to tea, after which dancing commenced and was kept up to an early hour, every one expressing themselves very much pleased with the day's entertainment, which was of the most enjoyable character.
