THE SALMON OVA.

The salmon ova which arrived per Arawata was conveyed by special train from the Bluff aud deposited in the Wallacetown hatching ponds. They were carried thence on handbarrowa. The shipment comprises 113 boxes, three of which have been sent to Canterbury. On opening and examining two boxes after arrival at the ponds, Ihe ova in one, supposed to contain ,200 eggs, turned out 280 which appeared to possess vitality. The curator is exercising the greatest care, and takes Ihe work of unpacking entirely on himsolf.
