THE VALUE OF GOLD.
Mr. W. Smart, who is so well known in St. Bathans and Welshman's Gully, lately left for Melbourne. Being anxious to ascertain the real value of the gold from Welshman's, he, in selling to the bank at Dunstan Creek, asked for five ounces of his gold to be given back to him. This average sample he disposed of in Melbourne. The following is the note of the sample, which has been furnished to us for publication:— :.. The difference between its weight before and after melting was one-hundredth part. 284 * giving 5 ozb. of gold at £3 17s. 104 d., ,1000, . -,..' ...
