The plea for the defence was "No fear," and taac the talings were being disc hpurged into the gully, and not into the complainants' head race. The Warden visited the ground. Judgment iV»r complainant 205., . and lis. T;:e defendant was further mulcted in a penalty of 10s., for breach of sec. 1 reg. 22, Mining iiules and [Kegulations. During the hearing of this case much inconvenience was experienced; from the absence, of an interpreter. No doubt many of tlie Celestials present .were quite able to understand what was go nig on, and were sufficiently well acquainted with English to make themselves un Icrstood in t nit language, This did not, however, prevent them from replying.to all inconvenient question with the" conventional "no saby." Seeing the daily increase of the -Chinos.! population in this district, the sooner John Aloo, or some other qualified interpreter is located here the better.
