The papers had been .taken from the box in which they were usually kept, he having occasion to- take the box with him to.town, and hence they could not be found when called for by the Permanent Chairman^—never imagining that there would be any necessity for calling another meeting after he left for town he had omitted to make any arrangements or give any instructions respecting the books and papers. The omission on his part was unintentional, and there was no desire to thwart or offend the Committee.

Mr. Bremner was quite satisfied, and was happy-to withdraw the ; vote of censure from the minutes, and would, therefore, move —" That the vote of censure 1 passed on Mr. George, the Secretary, at the last meeting, be withdrawn." Mr. M'Donald seconded the motion,. ' expressing himself satisfied with Mr. , George's explanation. . • '. Chaplin relative to the' mail service, and his Honor's promis to recommend its acceptance to the Postmaster-Gene-ral.

A vote of thanks having, been proposed to Messrs. BremnerandM'Donald by ;;Mr." Grlennj and seconded by Mr. Morrison, and carried,. The. Secretary read. the following letter from the Chief Postmaster in Dunedin, received by that day's mail: Chief Post Office, Dunedin, May Bth,. 1869- - Sie, —With reference to the memorial recently forwarded to . the Postinaster-General by the residents at Mount Ida, praying that the mail service between Palmerston and Clyde should be made to pass through the township of Mount Ida, I am instructed by the Postmaster-General to inform you that, as the road between Eden Creek and Mount Ida, is at presont reported to, be impassable by coach, and the additional subsidy asked being considerable, the G-overnment cannot interfere in the matter ; but, should the road ■be made so that the coach cotild travel safely by it, the matter will be reconsidered, and tenders called for a service by both routes at the end of the current-year as a test.
