ENGLISHMAN FINED.

FOR KILLING PENGUINS

Dunedin, February 21.

In the Magistrate’s Court Wilfred James Plowden-Wardlaw was fined £ls for killing two penguins at Taiaroa Heads. The police stated that the defendant, who was a salesman or traveller for an English firm, was one of a party killing the penguins and when told that the matter would be reported to the police, he offered to pay £lO to charity. Later he took the birds to the museum, where they were preserved. Defendant, in a statement to the court, said he had learned taxidermy at the British Museum and thought he would like to take a paii' of penguins back to the museum.
