NATIONAL PARTY.
A ballot held in National Party circles to select one of four nominees to contest the Rangitikei seat at the next general election, resulted in the selection of Mr E. B. Gordon, farmer, of Fem Flats, Mai’ton.
The other nominees were Mr A. Stuart, Marton, who was defeated as Nationalist candidate at the last election; Mr T. C. Lowry, farmer, of Taihape; and Mr W. J. Crawford, printer, of Palmerston North, who was a Democrat nominee at the last election.
The meeting was attended by over 150 delegates, Mr Justin Power, secretary of the Wellington Division headquarters, presiding. Each nominee addressed the meeting for ten minutes. Mr Gordon’s selection was made without preliminary ballots.
Representatives ’of the local branch of the National Party journeyed to Otaki last evening to participate in a ballot for a candidate for Otaki. Three nominations were received. They were Messrs E. Winley, F. E. Trim and G. A. Monk. Mr Winley withdrew before the selection The ballot resulted in Mr Monk being selected as the. candidate for the district.
