FISHING RIGHTS PURCHASE
A life-long enthusiasm for fishing is reflected in a novel provision in the will of Mi' Arthur Stuart Murdoch, who was manager of the. Bank of Australasia in Auckland from . 1922 until his retirement from the bank’s service in 1928/ After his retirement Mr Murdoch lived mainly at so that his leisure could be devoted to trout fishing, of which he was ai well-known exponent. Mr Murdoch died in Melbourne on May 2. The gross value of Mr. Murdoch’s estate is £41,570, all personality, of .which £10,820 is in; Victoria, £IO,OOO in New Zealand, £9OOO in England, £SOOO in' New South Wales, £4OOO. in Queensland, £2400 in Fiji, and £350 in South Australia. The will bequeaths, legacies totalling £B7OO to various relatives and friends, £IOOO to the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand for orphanage . work round Auckland, and £IOOO to a hospital at Forres, Scotland. Subject to a life charge in fav-; our of a brother, the residue is be 1 ' queathed to the Provost of the; Royal Borough'of Forres as a ! fund or the nucleus of a, fund ’ to* purchase the sole rights of all classes of fishing in the lower por- ! tion of the River Findhorn from the harbour bar up to the Red Craig for the benefit of the per-' mauent residents of Forres town and parish and the parish of Rafford. If the funds have ■ not been used for the.purpose named within a certain period, it is directed that* they are 1 to bemused for the purchase of freehold land near Forres, to be held as a free and pub- ; lie park or domain for the use; of; the inhabitants of that city.
