SCHOOL FUNDS.
(To The Editor) Sir, —I noticed in your report of the school committee meeting that a request from the janitor for increased wages was turned down because of the “straitened finances” of the committee. I do not know whether the janitor is under paid or not, but it seems strange to me, sir, that the committee is short of funds when they are gathering in the shekels from dances and entertainments.. I should like to (know how much money has been raised lately and what becomes of it? —Yours, etc.
PUZZLED. [IN referring the above to the Chairman, he stated that the committee has not raised money from the public as mentioned by “Puzzled.” The entertainments recently held were organised by the Parents’ Association for ground improvements and a dental clinic. The committee is unable to meet current expenses from capitation alone and in the circumstances were unable, although sympathetic, to accede to the janitor’s request. —Ed. H]
